  • Abstract:
    Conflict within an organisational context has and continues to be an area of avid interest for both researchers and practitioners alike. A firm becomes more effective by developing and enhancing their conflict management strategy. The relationship between personality and conflict management has been explored. Although acknowledgement of certain personality types being more likely to experience conflict exists, analysis of distribution and commonality of personality traits at CM level in the ROI is absent. 75 construction professionals currently working in the Irish construction sector carry out the BFI (Big Five Inventory). The results are analysed and scored in five categories, Extraversion, Neuroticism, Openness, Conscientiousness and Agreeableness. The findings show that Irish construction professionals score exceptionally high in extraversion with 63% of participants scoring highest in this category. Participants also scored high in conscientiousness, aligning with the industry's need for organisation. Agreeableness scores are uniformly low with it being the lowest scoring category for nearly 70% of participants. This study provides a foundation on which the wider research plan, investigating the relationship between personality and conflict in the built environment is executed.
